Moffat RFC Belhaven Tens Report

So it came and went in a flash. The reward for our, blood, sweat and tears was a fantastic day of rugby, we can't ask for more.

On Saturday we hosted our 23rd Belhaven 10’s tournament and it was the biggest the club have ever attempted. In true fashion the weather changed the evening before, which we’re sure suited the players and the grounds staff, not so much the spectators! A fantastic day of rugby was had with our first ever attempt at a Ladies tournament running alongside our well established Men’s Tournament. Ten men’s teams and three women’s teams from far and wide competed for the silverware on the day and gave the vast number of spectators a brilliant display of the sport.

Thanks to the teams, coaches and referees for coming and taking part. The feedback we have had so far from the event has been great and plans are already underway for the 24th 10’s Tournament!

Thanks to all our event sponsors Belhaven & Buccleuch Arms, Andrew Jardine Agriculture, Annandale Estates, W J Murray Fencing, Anderson Fencing, A Jardine, RC Dalgliesh, J Little, Drummond & Murray Plumbing, Bob Southwell, A & M Duncanson, Chefs in Scotland, Cost2Build, M Kirk and J Quigley.

The winners of the Men’s tournament for the second year were Biggar RFC who defeated Dumfries Saints in the final to lift the Willie Goudie Memorial Shield. Moffat RFC would like to send best wishes to Aird and Jack of Biggar and wish them a speedy recovery. Stewartry RFC were defeated in the battle for the quiach by Dalkeith RFC who knocked the Rams out to get to the final.

The tournament was a good foundation for the home side to start their build up to the new season which begins with a home friendly vs Cowal on the 18th August.

The Ladies trophy final was a fight between Oban and Annan with Oban taking the win and the silverware back up to the highlands. Moffat's Erin Smith featured in the Oban team and Oban Captain - Moffat lass Laura MacCormick (nae Malone) dropped to her knees at the final whistle of her first ever home match. A great treat for the local supporters and thanks to all the ladies players and coaches who played on the day, you put on a great show and a great start to what will hopefully become a regular feature of this event.

Thank you to our guest of honour Mrs Liz Goudie for presenting the prizes and our memorial arbour in memory of our former President, the late Mr Willie Goudie and Mr Archie Brown. The arbour will take pride of place beside the badger himself and our scoreboard within Willie’s “Field of Dreams”.

Once again our volunteers and friends made it all happen prior to and on the day and we are eternally grateful to all those who pitched in to lend a hand. HUGE THANKS TO YOU ALL!!

Thanks to our official photographer David Borthwick for the pictures attached. These pictures are the property of David Borthwick unless purchased directly from David. A full range of his pictures van be seen in our gallery.

The Senior Rams preseason training is well underway and anyone who is keen to join the squad should come along to training on Tuesday or Thursday at 7pm or contact Cameron Little. Our Junior season starts again on the 26th August at 11am, please contact Ashleigh Douglas with queries.

In addition - please could the merchandise items that were removed from our clubhouse wall be returned to us. Thanks in advance.
