It is with great sadness that we note the passing on Sunday 18th March of Willie Goudie, the former President of Moffat Rugby Football Club and much more.
Our condolences go to his wife Liz and the rest of the family and, of course, the club is here to support in any way we can. Our sorrow is tempered by a host of happy memories of a great man.
Willie was a champion of the club from its birth in 1994 and took over the role of President when the Rams were about 5 years old. He led us through our formative years from confused child to plooky youth and into our twenties where we now sit, fit for the future.
His quiet, determined and unique style won Willie and the club many friends and under his stewardship the club were able to purchase our ground , develop our facilities and become the community asset that we all dreamed of in those early days.
A dapper dresser, a bon viveur, a gourmet and gourmand, all who knew Willie benefited from his sage advice, his steely determination, his broad knowledge and his innovative skills such as the two day committee meeting!
From St Palais to Strathaven and from Cowal to Carlisle, the sight of Willie, AKA Badger, patrolling the touchline in his wide range of bright corduroys, will be greatly missed but not forgotten.
A kind, loyal, humble, gentle man has left us. Many a glass will be raised in his memory as he would insist. William John Craik Goudie, a Gentleman.
Once a Ram, always a Ram.
