Last weekend the Rams travelled to Fintry to play a Strathendrick team sitting comfortably at the top of West Division 2.
On a beautiful autumn day perfect for running rugby the very well organised home team put on a display of superb all round rugby which highlights the gulf between the top of the league and teams mid table or below. Under these conditions it was questionable whether the big Rams pack would be able to exert and replicate the pressure of recent games.
Strathendrick started from the off and took the game to Moffat and the rampant home side had
secured the try bonus within twenty minutes and although the Rams tried their best they couldn’t put together any concerted moves mainly because they were being starved of the ball. When they did get the ball it was feeding of scraps really and it looked like it was a damage limitation operation after a welcome half time whistle blew with Strathendrick 45 points to the good.
The second half more of the same with the home side’s confidence sky high and everything coming off for them whilst the rams continued to battle and show some pride. Ironically it was late in the game when the rams managed to put together some moves and Dom Lewis scored out wide for a consolation try which was converted by Thomas Quigley.
Last word was to Strathendrick who scored near the final whistle to leave the result as Strathendrick 78 – Moffat Rams 7.
Whilst on the surface this looks like a real hammering there is no doubt that Strathendrick are
smarting after their relegation last season and have regrouped. It will take a very good team to beat them if they continue to play in this manner.
