Rams loose out in 11 try scoring feast

Last Saturday on a beautiful autumn day the Rams made the short journey up the M74 to play old rivals Uddingston. With last year’s games ending in either a draw or a very narrow victory this had all the ingredients of being a cracker and so it turned out with, sadly, the Rams being edged out despite a tremendous comeback.

The Rams fielded a very young side packed with local talent with only super subs Gary Smith and

Craig Currie help balance the age differential. In the early exchanges the very well drilled and

superbly fit home side held all the advantages rushing into a four try lead all within 20 minutes. With the Rams forwards struggling for possession and the quality of the opposition at the breakdown meant time with the ball was a rarity for the Rams. A good move when the backs finally got some quality possession and space saw Dom Lewis cross in the corner and TJ supplied the conversion. This was quickly countered when Uddingston scored their fifth try of the half leaving the half time score at 29-7.

At the interval some words of wisdom were imparted and changes were made. Almost immediately the Rams began to click and started the claw back process. With the forwards finally winning some turn over ball the young backs swung into gear creating space and making ground at will. Two George Beamish tries sandwiched between an Uddingston converted try, and a further Lewis score, were closely followed by a sublime finish by Steele. With one try converted by TJ and a further by Scott Kane this completed the scoring and left the result on a knife edge. Sadly the comeback couldn’t be completed despite Keiran Wood and Scott Galloway going agonisingly close both being held up by a desperate Uddingston defence. It was a very relieved Uddingston who took the win at the final whistle with a score of 36-31. A consolation 2 bonus points seemed unlikely at half time but in the end seemed sparse reward for the Rams second half performance.

This Saturday the Rams are having their final big fundraising Family Fun Day at the Holm starting at 12 noon with lots of fun for all the family including inflatables games for all the family plus all the usual BBQ, home baking and raffle. So everyone is welcome. This will be followed by the senior Rams playing host to Bishopton kick off 3.00 p.m.
