Fantastic Day at the Belhaven Tens

There was a fantastic day of rugby at the Moffat RFC Belhaven 10s tournament. It was good to see everyone having a great time and there was an excellent turnout. The teams played some wonderful rugby, perhaps with some Olympian inspiration, but in a ten-a-side format. It was the 22nd year for the tournament known as South West Scotland's most enjoyable rugby event. In the semi-finals Newton Stewart cruised past Langholm 67-7, giving an indication of their intent to win the trophy. Stewartry made it into the final beating Earlston 36-14. Before the main event Captain Cammy led the Moffat Rams to win the Quaich final 36-10 in a thrilling game against local rivals Annan, ensuring the home team bagged some silver. The Final was closer than the score line suggests, but Newton Stewart overpowered Stewartry 38-7 to become the 2016 tournament champions. Player of the tournament went to Stewartry's number 10 John Muir with some brilliant stand-off rugby.

The fun didn't stop there and the event had a festival feel as the Afterparty was a terrific success with dancing in the Marquee to 'Wired', who proved to be a pretty decent band. The crowd certainly had stamina as the revelry continued late into the night. Many thanks are due to the sponsors and supporters for making it all a huge success. Thanks also to all the volunteers for making it possible particularly Kirsty, Hannah, Davey, Joy, Hammy, Scott and Ashleigh, who were there to the bitter end. Well done all.

Junior training will begin for the Junior Rams on Sunday 28th August at 11am. Everyone is welcome P2/3-P7 and Secondary. Finally there is a Fun Day on Saturday 17th September at Moffat's second home game of the season, with the first one on Saturday 27th August.
