Cammy Little, named BT Volunteer of the Month Jan 2016

The BT Volunteer of the Month Award for January was awarded to Cammy Little of Moffat Rugby Club, for his contribution to the club through his role as junior head coach and 1st XV captain.

The 28-year-old first became involved in rugby as a junior at Moffat and also spent some time playing alongside Scotland international Alex Dunbar at Annan before moving back to Moffat to play senior rugby.

Cammy also manages his time as a player and coach with a full-time role at his family bakery, R Little Bakers, the holders of the award for the Best Potato Scones in Scotland.

As the fourth generation of the family to work in the bakery, Cammy begins his day at 4am by baking fresh produce before playing or coaching rugby in the evenings at Moffat.

On receiving the award, which was presented by Scottish Rugby Council member, Adam Gray, Cammy said:

“I am delighted to be recognised for my contribution to helping Moffat progress but it is a team effort at the club.

Managing my time between rugby and the bakery takes some planning but I’m passionate about both, so I don’t notice how much time I commit. Power naps are the key!”

Cammy’s role as a coach at Moffat sees him provide teams across the junior and senior sections of the club with weekly sessions, and Cammy is hopeful that Moffat can produce stars of the future.

“It was great to play alongside Alex Dunbar at Annan, at the time he showed real class with an attitude to succeed.

“I’m a season ticket holder at Glasgow Warriors so it’s great to see him succeed at club level and play for Scotland. Hopefully, the coaching team at Moffat will produce one of his future teammates or maybe even the next Dunbar!”

The junior section at Moffat has been met with recent competition following a local football team’s development of a new set of age groups, but this hasn’t deterred Cammy from continuing to develop the club’s youth section.

I do everything that I can to keep juniors involved in the sport and work closely with local schools to give children the opportunity to try rugby, which will hopefully help grow our club numbers going forward.

“It’s important to keep youth players interested as they are the next generation of our club’s senior team and the sport in general.”

Cammy also captains Moffat’s 1st XV and enjoyed the success of promotion to BT West League Division 3 last season. He said: “Our promotion last season was something we had hoped to do for a long time and it felt great to be the captain of the team when we did make it.

“We have a great bunch of players in the squad and I’m hoping they all continue to enjoy the game as much as I do for a long time to come."
